On-Chain Analysis: Reading Bitcoin's Blockchain Like a Professional

What Is On-Chain Analysis?

Examining blockchain data directly: transaction volumes, wallet balances, exchange flows, holder behavior. Bitcoin's transparency gives analysts a unique edge.

Key Metrics

1. Exchange Flows: BTC to exchanges = intent to sell (bearish). Off exchanges = accumulating (bullish). Current: exchange BTC at multi-year lows -- structurally bullish.

2. MVRV Ratio: Market cap vs realized cap. Above 3.0 = overheated. Below 1.0 = best accumulation zone historically.

3. LTH vs STH Supply: Long-term holders (155+ days). LTH increasing = accumulation. LTH decreasing = distribution to retail.

4. SOPR: Whether coins move at profit or loss. In bull markets, SOPR dip to 1.0 = buying opportunity.

5. Realized Price Bands: STH realized price = support in bulls, resistance in bears. LTH realized price = deep support, generational buying opportunity.

Free Tools

  • Glassnode (free tier): industry standard
  • CryptoQuant: exchange flows, miner metrics
  • Bitcoin Magazine Pro: beautiful BTC charts
  • Dune Analytics: custom DeFi queries

Decision Framework

Strong buy: MVRV below 1 + exchange outflows + LTH accumulating + extreme fear.

Strong sell: MVRV above 3 + exchange inflows + LTH distributing + extreme greed.

On-chain data shows what smart money is DOING -- more valuable than what anyone is SAYING.
